As iThemba House is a non-profit organization, we rely solely on donations from companies and individuals,
as well as the money we raise through our fundraising activities.
We have received our Section 18 certificate from SARS, which allows companies, who donate funds to us,
to claim their donations back for tax purposes.
With the money raised we are paying salaries to the House Mother, a day mother, as well as Johnson,
who lives at the house and serves as support to Ruth and does all the maintenance/security for us.
We are also covering the rental, maintenance of the house, food, clothing and everything that is required to
make a home for 6 children in need.
The cost of running iThemba House and housing 6 children is approximately R30000 per month. We have
started a "sponsor a rainbow bed" fundraising scheme. Each bed at the Safe House is named after one of the
colours of the rainbow (violet, indigo, blue, etc). Companies and individuals are now able to sponsor a
bed on a monthly basis, helping us to fund the costs of the child sleeping in that specific bed. We have
posted a brief history and details of the development of the individual children in each bed on our website.
We have calculated the cost per bed to be approx R5000 per month (this will cover rental, salary payments,
food, clothing, electricity, etc). Any amount donated towards a bed would be much appreciated and welcome.
