The Orange Bed
1. Lilly*, a clever little 11 month old girl, now sleeps under the
warm duvet of our Orange Bed. Lilly’s* mother was diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder shortly after Lilly’s*
birth, and since there were no other family members who were available to look after this beautiful girl,
she was placed in safety at Nazareth House for the first 11 months of her life.

This little girl has never learnt what it means to be living in a small family unit, as her short life has been spent
in institutions, without a family to call her own. At iThemba House we will introduce Lilly to the rest of our family,
our other children and our volunteers, and hopefully aid her in developing strong attachment styles and trust.
She will be able to experience messy finger painting games, play on our jungle gym and do the things that every
girl her age should have the possibility to enjoy...learn how to play!!!!!Soon she will be talking her first steps and
celebrating her first birthday with us at iThemba House. We look forward to sharing all the special experiences with
this little princess! Lilly* will remain at iThemba House until she can either be reunited with her biological mother,
or, failing this, a suitable foster home can be found for her.
2. One year old Thebo* is now cuddling in our Orange Bed. He is just
beginning to take his first steps, so watch this space for updates on his walking developments. Unfortunately Thebo*
has been living on the streets of Hout Bay with his mother, and has never had a place which he could call home in his
short life. He seemed very positively surprised at the warm duvets and pillows, and all the toys at his disposal. His
first warm bath was filled with giggles and huge eyes of enjoyment. Thebo* will be receiving extra nutritional
boosters to improve his health and body weight. He will be staying at iThemba House until a suitable foster family
can be found for him. Welcome Thebo*!
3. Themba* is a five month old baby boy,
who was left abandoned and brought to
iThemba House in December 2009. Luckily his biological mother was found and Themba* was reunited with her
after a short stay at our Safe House. |

4. Our Orange Bed was not empty for long, as a beautiful
6 month old baby boy, Lavela*,
has come to sleep in it. Lavela* came to us in a very bad physical state, totally
undernourished and extremely hungry. At first, when given the bottle, Lavela*
struggled to keep the formula down, as his tiny tummy was not used to the intake
of food. Since Lavela* has come to stay at iThemba House, he has gained weight
beautifully. He has learnt to crawl, an achievement he is very proud of!
Unfortunately Lavela's biological family is not able to look after him, and we
are in the process, with the help of Child Welfare, to find a suitable and loving
foster home for him. |
